How to Add Colour to Your Server MOTD

Confirmed working with Minecraft i.12

Welcome to my tutorial on how to color and format your servers MOTD! If you're here, then you have probably tried to practise a MOTD such every bit "&5Vauff's Awesome Server!". Sadly though, it would have shown up similar this.

Let's endeavour to fix this shall we? First nosotros're going to need to become rid of the &5 and make the MOTD "Vauff's Awesome Server!" again. Earlier we more in depth to tutorial lets go over the colour and formatting codes over again.

&0 - Black
&ane -

Nighttime BLUE
&2 - DARK GREEN
&iii - Night AQUA
&4 - Dark RED
&5 - DARK Purple
&half dozen - Gilt
&7 - Gray
&8 - Dark GRAY
&9 - INDIGO
&a - GREEN
&b - AQUA
&c - RED
&d - Pinkish
&east - YELLOW
&f - WHITE
&thousand - Obfuscated
&50 - Bold
&one thousand - ~~Strikethrough~~
&n -
Underline
&o - Italic
&r - Reset

Now, in order to get our MOTD coloured or formatted we need to put \u00A7 instead of the &. So something like &v would turn into \u00A75. The full list of these is listed beneath.

\u00A70 - Blackness
\u00A71 -

DARK BLUE
\u00A72 - DARK GREEN
\u00A73 - Dark AQUA
\u00A74 - Nighttime Crimson
\u00A75 - DARK PURPLE
\u00A76 - Aureate
\u00A77 - GRAY
\u00A78 - DARK GRAY
\u00A79 - INDIGO
\u00A7a - Dark-green
\u00A7b - AQUA
\u00A7c - RED
\u00A7d - PINK
\u00A7e - YELLOW
\u00A7f - WHITE
\u00A7k - Obfuscated
\u00A7l - Bold
\u00A7m - ~~Strikethrough~~
\u00A7n -
Underline
\u00A7o - Italic
\u00A7r - Reset

You would also be able to use § in replacement of the & instead of \u00A7 if yous choose to practice and so.

Later on replacing the &v in my MOTD with \u00A75 my MOTD now looks like this.

Information technology'southward actually a great thing that yous posted this. Nigh people call up that you use the aforementioned colour codes for the server MOTD. They think simply doing &1Hi will brand the text night blue. Withal there is a completely different arrangement for it.

y'all could add to this with this side note on formatting in bold and writing on the second motd line

\u00A7l = Bold Text
\u00A7k = Magic Text
\u00A7n = Underlined Text
\u00A7m = Striked through Text
\u00A7o = italic Text
\u00A7r = Reset

\ north = places anything afterwards on the adjacent line

e.g

\u00A77\u00A7lPlay.\u00A79\u00A7l\u00A7nT\u00A7e\u00A7l\u00A7nA\u00A7a\u00A7l\u00A7nN\u00A7c\u00A7l\u00A7nMC\u00A77\u00A7l.net \u00A7e\u00A7l| \u00A74\u00A7l[i.four.1] \u00A7c\u00A7l\u00A7nDEV\n\u00A7e>>\u00A73 Much Needed Fixes

How would I do italic and dark red color for any server name (instance: CreeperCraft)? What would the unabridged text be for me to enter it in my server settings?

That should work, if not, reverse the italic and color codes.

Or, simply employ § and so the normal color lawmaking number, eg §1 = blue
To get the § symbol, hit alt+2+1

I believe it works on vanilla but I'm non 100% sure about that.
